Poetic Meditations(??) Burn, line, stoke, cut, strike, wash, dig
Change-Weighted and rooted in the Self.
The self in the moment, an apparent stillness gives ways to poetic meditations. The resulting work is Self referencial and performative. The graphite self portraits studies record a particular psychology, a need to recoonect, an intimate study of change and motion itself. My inability to stay put, and the resulting volume of drawings. The everchanging present moment and its awareness, becomes a way to interrogating the self, or assess how the drawing itself is holding or not holding up to the moment. There is an intimate barrier, between capturing the physicality, but seeing if the physicality will carry the psychological experience. At times, the uninhibited self of Drawings in solitude, opens up and the line and gestures demarcates that internal reality to the external one. When I stroke instead of line, the physical effort seems to make it gestural, and therefore a choreography, where the body’s performance should not be separated from the drawing result. Internal turmoils take over, the drawing becomes a full action movement. At times sublimating melancholia by art making, to expose shame, to remember, conceal and reveal and in that discharge what no longer serves.
